DACONO, Colo. – For Trevor Huddleston, every triumph in the ARCA Menards Series West carries its own unique distinction.

Huddleston is only a few months removed from securing his first West Series title in what was his seventh full-time season of competition. The most recent West Series event at Shasta Speedway earlier in May saw Huddleston reach another pivotal career milestone; he eclipsed the double-digit mark in wins.

Saturday’s victory in the Legendary Billy Green 150 at Colorado National Speedway for Huddleston was another one for him to remember. While it was his first West Series checkered flag at the complex, Huddleston also had another reason to celebrate.

“I have a lot of special moments in racing,” Huddleston said. “I proposed to my girlfriend at the racetrack, and we’re excited to announce we’re expecting our first child in November. That’s pretty special.

“We already looked it up. Four and a half is the age when they can start quarter midgets. We’ll start with that.”

Colorado had long been a solid track for Huddleston prior to his visiting Victory Lane there for the first time Saturday. Huddleston’s maiden West Series start at Colorado in 2018 saw him finish third to round out a one-two-three finish for Sunrise Ford Racing.

Huddleston matched his personal best Colorado finish during the West Series’ return to the complex last season, though that race was shortened to 60 laps due to rain. With no threat of inclement weather for this year’s trip to Colorado, Huddleston was eager to see how his car would fair with a full 150 laps at his disposal.

It did not take long for Huddleston to advance forward from the outside pole, as he applied immense pressure on Robbie Kennealy during the opening 20 laps. Once Kennealy caught lapped traffic, Huddleston found an opening on the inside lane, allowing him to take control of the race and cruise to a dominant win.

Kennealy’s runner-up showing to Huddleston was a season-best and extended his top five streak to three races. Placing behind Huddleston is something Kennealy knows will not help his championship ambitions, but the progress made in recent weeks is providing optimism about returning to Victory Lane later this year.

“Our No. 1 Jan’s Racing Ford Fusion was really, really good tonight,” Kennealy said. “It was an adjustment or two away from being with [Huddleston]. Our year hasn’t started out really good, but we brought really good speed tonight, and we’re on the right direction. I’m really proud of it.”

Kennealy admitted he wanted to win the Legendary Billy Green 150 in honor of Kyle Busch, who had passed away Thursday. The car Kennealy drove Saturday was a chassis previously utilized by Kyle Busch Motorsports.

For his victory celebration, Huddleston performed a bow that resembled Busch’s signature celebration from his storied career. With Busch’s loss still weighing heavily on the motorsports industry, Huddleston felt it was more than appropriate to pay respect to one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers.

“Me, my crew chief and I talked about trying to figure out a way to honor Kyle Busch,” Huddleston said. “No one can do as good of a bow as he could, but it was truly an honor to represent him. As a racer, everyone tries to be Kyle Busch, so it was super epic to appreciate him like this.”
